Drainage Alone or with Anti-Tumor Therapy for Obstructive Jaundice Caused by Recurrence and Metastasis

چکیده
Obstructive jaundice is a cumbersome complication in patients with advanced solid malignancies. The primary tumors associated with obstructive jaundice include primary biliary tract tumors, pancreatic tumors, tumor of the ampulla of Vatter, and tumor of the duodenum. However, obstructive jaundice can be caused by metastasis to the porta hepatic from many different tumors such as gastric , colon, and breast cancer (Burke et al., 2003; Dambraukas et al., 2003). It may cause refractory symptoms and often impedes further use chemotherapy (Iruarrizaga et al., 2011). Drainage or stenting of an obstruction can relieve symptoms and restore serum biochemistry to normal. Improvement in liver function by biliary drainage may provide symptomatic relief and allow for antitumor therapies, including transhepatic chemoembolization (TACE) and chemotherapy (Cui et al., 2012; Li et al., 2012; Mao et al., 2012; Kong et al., 2012; Xiong et al.,

A 65-year-old woman with obstructive jaundice was referred to our division for treatment of a huge hepatic tumor. The patient had a history of resection of a stomach submucosal tumor 10 years ago. Dynamic computed tomographic (CT) scan showed a heterogeneous hypervascular tumor occupying both the left hemiliver and the right paramedian sector of the liver, measuring 15 10 cm in diameter (850 cm...

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the prognosis of different ways of drainage for patients with obstructive jaundice caused by hilar cholangiocarcinoma. MATERIALS AND METHODS During the period of January 2006- March 2012, percutaneous transhepatic catheter drainage (PTCD)/ percutaneous transhepatic biliary stenting (PTBS) were performed for 89 patients. According to percutaneous transhepatic cholangiogra...

Background: Aggressive angiomyxoma is a rare mesenchymal tumor with extensive local invasion. It often presents with a lump in the perineal area and pelvic. Since it often does not involve adjacent organs such as the urethra and anus, does not cause obstructive symptoms. Its incidence is 6 times higher in women than men. This tumor grows slowly and has a slight tendency to metastasize. However,...
متن کاملObstructive jaundice caused by intraductal metastasis of lung adenocarcinoma
Obstructive jaundice caused by metastases to the porta hepatis is often observed in patients with various advanced cancers; however, metastasis of lung cancer to the common bile duct with subsequent development of jaundice is rare. A 75-year-old female with lung adenocarcinoma harboring epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation (15-bp in-frame deletion in exon 19 and T790M in exon 20) de...
